Panthers Close Road Trip With Big Win

Now 19-9 on the season

INDIANAPOLIS – Four Panthers scored in double figures as the Milwaukee women's basketball team used a total team effort to take down IUPUI, 67-60, Monday evening from The Jungle.

Milwaukee (19-9, 10-6 Horizon) used an 8-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to go up by five with 3:39 left and never trailed again, once again icing the game away from the line.

The Panthers' defensive effort was also notable Monday, holding IUPUI (20-7, 12-4 Horizon) to just 60 points after they came into the game averaging 86 over the last three games, handing the Jags just their fourth loss in conference play this season.

"We're playing consistent right now," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "This is one and a half games – I won't count the first half at Cleveland State – where our team has just really been locked in and high-level energy. Anytime you can go on the road – especially in a place like this – and win is a really good mark for our program."

Jenny Lindner led the way for Milwaukee with 18 points, seven rebounds, a career-high six assists and three steals.

Steph Kostowicz battled foul trouble and finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in 23 minutes.

Jamie Reit had 10 points and six rebounds, while McKaela Schmelzer also scored in double figures with 10 points.

Macee Williams, Tamya Sims and Danielle Lawrence combined for 48 of the Jags 60 points on the night.

In a game the featured eight ties and nine lead changes, Milwaukee found itself trailing 50-47 with 6:12 left in the game before going on a big run.

Lindner started things off with a layup before Reit had a step back jumper to put UWM ahead, 51-50. Farley followed that up with a layup and Schmelzer found Ryaen Johnson for two of her four points on the night to give Milwaukee a 55-50 lead with 3:39 to play.

From there, the Panthers had an answer for every IUPUI challenge.

Reit scored on back-to-back possessions to keep the lead at five and another Lindner layup made it a 61-54 lead with 1:12 left on the clock.

The Jags would cut the lead to three with 17 seconds left, but Lindner and Reit each hit their free throws to ice the game away for another road win.

UWM had its way down low Monday, scoring 34 points in the paint and once again winning the rebounding battle, 34-21.

Up next, the Panther return home for their final two regular season games of the year, starting Friday at 7pm when they play host to Detroit Mercy.
