Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Reit’s Hot Shooting Not Enough Friday

Late cold spell dooms MKE

MILWAUKEE Jamie Reit poured in a career-high 24 points but it wasn't enough as the Milwaukee women's basketball team dropped a 76-62 decision to Green Bay Friday night from the Klotsche Center.

A two-point game early in the fourth ballooned into a 14-point win for Green Bay (6-5, 1-0 Horizon) in the conference opener as MKE (5-7, 0-1 Horizon) went ice cold down the stretch in what had been a very tightly fought contest throughout.

Reit was hot right from the start and finished with a career-high 24 points on 7-18 shooting from the floor, including a career-best 6-15 from behind the arc.

Megan Walstad finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Lizzie Odegard – the reigning Horizon League Player of the Week – went 3-5 from the floor, including a pair of triples for eight points and five rebounds.

Frankie Wurtz finished with 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the way for the Phoenix.

It was a game of runs early on in Friday's contest. After a Wurtz three that gave GB a 14-8 early lead, MKE responded with a 7-0 run of their own, featuring an Akaylah Hayes and-one and four points from Brandi Bisping.

After Green Bay went ahead 24-15 early in the second, Milwaukee battled right back. Eight straight points from Reit to close that half made it a 38-34 game at the break.

Reit made it 11 consecutive points with a three to start the third quarter and the Panthers drew within two at 60-58 after Odegard's baseline jumper with 9:33 to play in the fourth.

But, MKE went ice cold the rest of the game, connecting on just one made field goal the rest of the way in deceptive final score of what was a close game for nearly the whole way.

Each team hit nine three's on the night – a season high for the Phoenix – and GB went to the free-throw line 24 times compared to Milwaukee's 11.

Up next, the Panthers hit the road for the first time in conference play, heading for a two-game stint in Ohio, starting Thursday at Northern Kentucky.
