Norse Steal Win Away From Milwaukee

Panthers play Wright State Saturday at 1 pm Central

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky scored the final six points of the game to steal one away from the Milwaukee women's basketball team in a tightly battled 55-54 contest from BB&T Arena Thursday evening.

Milwaukee (5-8, 0-2 Horizon) made an impressive push to flip a six-point deficit into a five-point lead in the final frame, only to see NKU (3-10, 2-1 Horizon) go on a 6-0 run to close things out in a heartbreaking loss for the Panthers.

Akaylah Hayes and Lizzie Odegard each finished with 10 points to lead the way for MKE. Bre Cera added another eight points, as did Sydney Levy – netting all eight in the final frame to help spark the comeback effort.

Ally Niece led the way for NKU with 11 points.

Down 41-35 early in the fourth quarter of a physical battle, Levy came off the bench and provided instant offense with a quick three to close the gap to three. Levy had a big bucket in the paint later in the frame before a jumper from Hayes to make it 43-42 with 5:43 to play.

Levy hit another triple after the media timeout to give MKE the lead and Cera drilled a triple of her own the next trip down the court for a 48-45 edge with 3:54 to go.

Hayes added a pair of big shots late to put MKE up 54-49 late.

But, NKU was able to flip the script with six points over the final minute, capped when Kailey Coffey connected on both her chances from the line with 4.2 seconds to complete a stunning comeback by the Norse.

The Panthers now will make the short trip up the road to Dayton for a Saturday afternoon contest at Wright State, scheduled for 1 pm Central inside the Nutter Center.
