Seminoles Shoot Lights Out To Sink MKE

Odegard sets career-high with 20 points

MILWAUKEE – Florida State smashed their program record by connecting on 15 three pointers to push to a 87-62 win over the Milwaukee women's basketball team Thursday night from the Klotsche Center.

A close game through three quarters, FSU (11-1) – which is the highest vote-getting team in the country not in this week's national top-25 poll – used a big run to start the fourth to take a five-point lead into an 87-62 victory.

"Credit to Florida State - they shot lights out tonight," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "They are a talented team from a talented conference in the ACC and they were on fire tonight."

Lizzie Odegard turned in a career-high 20 points on 8-15 shooting overall to go with four rebounds, three assists and a block in 29 minutes on the court.

Jamie Reit had the hot hand early, tying her career high with five triples to finish with 15 points.

Ryaen Johnson continued the strong start to her senior career, finishing with nine points, a career-high four assists, two steals and two more blocks.

Nicki Ekhomu finished with a game-high 26 points to lead the way for Florida State.

Milwaukee (5-6) was step for step with the highly touted Seminoles in the first half, sitting tied at 35-all after 20 minutes of play.

Florida State's first 15 points all came on three pointers, but Milwaukee was up to the task with a pair of early triples from Reit and some impressive high-low action for easy buckets down low against the long and athletic Seminoles.

Back-to-back threes from Odegard to end the first and MKE held a 20-19 edge after one.

Milwaukee then started the second with great all-around action, getting baskets from Odegard, McKaela Schmelzer and Sydney Staver before another triple from Reit to cap a 9-0 run and make it 29-22 for the home squad.

FSU would continue its three-point barrage before heading into the break knotted up at 35.

MKE trailed just 57-52 with 47 seconds left in the third before an FSU lay in and a three pointer right before the horn started what proved to be the difference. The Seminoles then score 10 of their next 12 points from the charity stripe with the Panthers going on their first cold stretch of the game to suddenly turn a close game into a 74-55 advantage.

Both teams finished the game shooting 47 percent from the floor, but the difference came from behind the arc where FSU finished 15-25 to Milwaukee's 8-18.

The 15 made threes by FSU smashed their previous program record of 12.

Up next, the Panthers now turn their attention to conference play where they will return from the Christmas break to host in-state rival Green Bay Friday, Dec. 28 at 7 pm from the Klotsche Center.
