In-State Standouts Sign With Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – A pair of in-state standouts have signed their papers and will join the Milwaukee volleyball team next season, head coach Susie Johnson announced Friday.

Ari Miller of Jackson, Wis., and Morgan Thiel of Oshkosh, Wis., have both signed on to play for Milwaukee for the start of the 2019 season.

Miller comes to Milwaukee from powerhouse Kettle Moraine Lutheran. This season, Miller helped the Chargers to a 31-11 overall record, finishing as the state runner-up. The 6-foot-1 middle racked up a team-high 17 kills while hitting an outstanding .412 in the semifinals and had a time-high 10 kills in the championship match. Miller notched her 1,000th career kill early on in her senior season.

"Ari is a high-level player," Johnson said. "She is a big time competitor and has a very high volleyball IQ. In the middle position, she will add a very strong attack and block, and we are very excited that she is joining us next season."

Thiel also comes from one of the most successful high schools in the state at Lourdes Academy. The 5'6" defensive specialist helped the Knights to three consecutive state tournament appearances before finishing as regional champions this season. In fact, over her entire prep career, Thiel helped Lourdes rack up an incredible 154 total wins. This season, she tallied an impressive 584 total digs to go with 65 aces.

"Morgan is a very quick, competitive back-row player," Johnson said. "We are very excited she is coming here. We think she has a ton of potential. She comes from a winning background and she will be a great addition to our program."
