WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team capped off a successful weekend at the Warhawk Fall Invite with all Panther athletes placing within the top-three of their flight Saturday from Whitewater.
Junior's
Nicole Clarke and
Anna Daniel Fuentes led the way in singles play Saturday afternoon placing at the top of their respective flights.
Nikki Milner and
Loren Nelson battled some hard fought matches to finish runner-up, while
Agata Jurczak and
Lucy Harper placed third.
In Flight C, Clarke cruised through her first match of the morning against Green Bay's Evgeniya Malygina 6-1, 6-0, while Nelson advanced when her competitor retired halfway through the match – setting up an All-Panther Championship match.
The two sides went head-to-head, but it was Clarke who came out on top, 6-1, 6-3.
Also at the top of her game was
Anna Daniel Fuentes. The Spain native had no trouble in her two matches defeating Maddie Holdren from Olivet Nazarene 6-0, 6-0, and Klara Smolikova from Cardinal Stritch 6-2, 6-4 to win the flight.
Freshman
Nikki Milner debuted with a second-place finish in Flight A. Milner defeated Wolves' Assya Trimari 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Whitewater's Gabi Kitchell 6-3. 6-4 in a hard fought match.
MKE's Jurczak took the final podium spot for the Panthers. The sophomore lost the first set 6-2, but went perfect in set two winning 6-0 to go into a tie-breaker. Jurczak and Piaskowski rallied back and forth, but Jurczak came up short losing 10-5.
It didn't take three sets in Jurczak's following match as she cruised on to win 6-2, 6-1 over Olivet Nazarene's Jovana Parlic.
Milwaukee will play in it's final match of the fall season on Oct. 26-28 at the Bronco Hidden Duals hosted by Western Michigan.
