WHITEWATER, Wis. – A hot racquet sparked successful play for the Milwaukee tennis team on Day 1 of the Warhawk Fall Invite as the Panthers crowned two double championships and an undefeated start to singles play Friday.
 
Due to weather, the tournament was played at three different sites: Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville (Wis.), Janesville Athletic Club and the Lake Geneva Tennis Club. The weather, however didn't damper the Panthers play going  7-1 in doubles and 6-0 in singles play on the day.
 
After a first round bye in Flight A, duo Nicole Clarke and Nikki Milner took care of business defeating Tallie Piaskowski and Theresa Tebon of Green Bay 8-4 in the semi-finals, and mirrored the same results with a win over Whitewater Gabi Kitchell and Julie Martin for the championship.
 
MKE's Lucy Harper and Anna Daniel Fuentes were faced with three matches to get to the Flight C Championship, but the tandem cruised through the matches winning 8-0 (Cardinal Stritch), 8-2 (Whitewater) and 8-1 (Whitewater).
 
In Flight B, Loren Nelson and Agata Jurczak went 2-1 on the day, good for third place. Milwaukee defeated Amanda Aberly and Susana Andres of Olivet Nazarene 8-3, before falling to Cardinal Stritch in a tight match 8-6. Nelson and Jurczak rebounded with a 8-4 triumph over Whitewater's Miler/Kraft.
 
In singles play, the Panthers went a perfect 6-0 to keep themselves in the winner's bracket.
 
Jurczak and Whitewater's Sabrina Palavra split the first two sets, but Jurczak came out on the top, winning the tiebreaker 10-6.
 
Final single competition will resume Saturday at 9 a.m.
