KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Milwaukee tennis team competed in its first day at the Bronco Hidden Duals hosted by Western Michigan. The tournament began with doubles play on Friday with two groups going 2-0 for the day.
Alexandra Belle and
Mayya Perova went to the wire in their first match Friday against Oakland's Ava Thielman and Darya Maltseva. The duo rallied back and forth but eventually won 7-6 (7-5) in a hard fought match. Belle and Perova picked up their second win convincingly defeating Eastern Illinois Shelby Anderson and Claire Martin 6-0. The Panther newcomers will take on R. Papavasilopoulos and Srishti Slaria of Eastern Illinois tomorrow.
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Lucy Harper also went toe-to-toe in their first match defeating Abby Carpenter and Karla Contreras of Eastern Illinois 7-6 (7-4). Against Western Michigan, Fuentes and Harper won quickly 6-3. They will face Oakland's Dasha Artamonova and Sofia Borcuti tomorrow.
Also picking up a win for MKE were
Nicole Clarke and
Nikki Milner. Clarke/Milner fell 6-2 in their first match against Eastern Illinois, but rebounded with a 6-1 win over Oakland.
Play resumes Saturday, Oct. 27 at the West Hills Athletic Club.
