OMAHA, Neb. – Milwaukee tennis team got its spring season jump started today in Omaha, Nebraska at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Panthers fell to the Mavericks 6-1 with
Loren Nelson collecting UWM's lone victory.
With goals in mind for the season opener, head coach
Jason Potthoff said, "For the first match of the year, with a very young team, the biggest thing I was looking for was how we competed and how we dealt with adversity." And the young Panther squad did just that – pushing four-of-the six singles matches to three sets.
Freshman
Loren Nelson notched her first collegiate victory defeating No. 3 Savanna Crowell 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 1-0 (12-10). "Loren had an exceptional day, playing really well in doubles and earning her first collegiate dual match victory by winning two tiebreaks."
In No. 1 singles play, senior
Labina Petrovska was edged out by Michelle Lo 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, while
Agata Jurczak and
Lucy Harper fell just short losing in three sets.
It's a quick turnaround for the Panthers as the team is set to take on DePaul on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club in Jackson, Wis. The match is set for 12 p.m.
