Volleyball Takes Tournament Title With Sweep Of Loyola

Second-straight 3-0 win for Milwaukee

CHICAGO – Senior Jess Kalous had a match-high 12 kills and hit .688 for the match to lead the Milwaukee volleyball team to a 3-0 win over host Loyola as part of the Rambler Challenge Saturday evening from Gentile Arena.

Milwaukee swept the field in the tournament and improved to 5-2 on the season with the 25-14, 25-11, 25-16 win.

"I was very pleased with how we played today," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "We had a good game plan coming in and I thought we executed that very well."

Kalous was the lone player in the match reaching double figures with 12 while hitting an incredible .688 overall – topping her career best set just one week earlier. Bridget Wallenberger was next with seven kills, while Kylie Wilks and Carmen Heilemann each added six.

Jenn Dore dished out another 29 assists to general the offense in the incredibly efficient showing.

Freshman Kailynn Mongan led Milwaukee in digs with nine, while Mykie Olsen and Wilks each had eight.

UWM jumped all over the host Ramblers right from the start. In the opening set, Milwaukee led 14-12 before exploding with an 11-2 run to close things out for an emphatic start to the contest.

That trend continued in the second as the Panthers quickly established a 6-1 lead out the gates and never looked back. A kill by Lexie Uselding made it 15-6 and an ace from Uselding closed things out with the sizeable second-set win.

Milwaukee actually trailed 10-9 in the third before reestablishing themselves with an 8-1 run to quickly take control. From there it was all UWM, with Johnson's squad cruising to tournament sweep.

As a team, the Panthers hit a season-best .354 for the match, while holding Loyola to an .096 hitting clip. Milwaukee also had another seven blocks and 11 service aces as part of the impressive victory.

UWM returns to Chicago next weekend for the DePaul Invitational, starting Friday at 4:30 pm against Northwestern.
