Golden Eagles Blank Milwaukee

Panthers off to tournament in Michigan Friday

MILWAUKEECaitlin Schultz had a match-high 13 kills and hit .370 but it wasn't enough as the Milwaukee volleyball team fell short, 3-0, to Marquette Tuesday evening from the Klotsche Center.

The Golden Eagles - the Big East's perennial power that won 23 matches one year ago - had a strong showing at the net, tallying 14 blocks on the night for the 25-13, 25-23, 25-17 win.

"This was a tough match against – I believe – the best team we've played this year," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "Marquette is a very physical team, they had great ball control tonight and served tough."

Jenn Dore dished out 32 assists on the night.

Mykie Olsen led the defense with 10 digs, and Schultz was solid on the attack with 13 kills.

"Caitlin's been playing that way most of the season, so she just played like herself and it worked," Johnson said. "She has worked very hard to be in this position and that showed with her success tonight."

After dropping the opening set, the Panthers rebounded well in the second and had the large crowd on its feet the whole way. Down 18-16, Milwaukee got three-straight kills by Schultz to jump ahead. Back-and-forth the whole way, Marquette tied things back up at 22-all, before finding a way down the stretch to take the 2-0 lead at the break and the eventual 3-0 win.

MU hit an impressive .372 for the match as a team and limited Milwaukee to just .118.

The Panthers hit the road this weekend for their final in-season tournament, heading to the Wolverine State for the Michigan Challenge, starting Friday.
