Offense Lights Up Scoreboard In Win Over Braves

Panthers claim 13-4 victory to close series

PEORIA, Ill. - John Boidanis and Cole Heili each hit home runs and Boidanis knocked in a career-high five runs to spark the Milwaukee baseball team to an easy 13-4 victory over Bradley University Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.

Boidanis finished 3-for-5 with those five RBI, scoring three times. Heili also went 3-for-5, scoring once while driving in three in addition to a pair of stolen bases.

Today it was the Panthers (9-19) that took over a close game with a big inning, opening up a 2-2 tie against the Braves (12-16) with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Daulton Varsho finished the day 3-for-3 with a pair of walks, setting a career-high with four runs scored. Ben Chally (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Devin Rybacki (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs) also added multi-hit afternoons as the offense recorded 14 hits.

"That was a good team win with many contributors," Milwaukee head coach Scott Doffek said. "Boidanis had a big day for sure – I thought he really swung the bat well all weekend."

Jay Peters (3-1) picked up the victory, walking just one and striking out five while pitching seven innings.

"Jay did a nice job of holding down a hot lineup in hitting-friendly conditions," Doffek said. "Now we need to come out Tuesday ready to play and take a little momentum into a big conference matchup this weekend."

Cole Cook (6-2) suffered just his second loss of the season, with Milwaukee roughing him up for eight runs and 10 hits in 6.0 innings.

Milwaukee again took the first lead of the game, scoring on a sac fly by Chally in the second. Bradley went to work – again with the long ball – and home runs in the second and third gave the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Boidanis first RBI of the day knotted the game at 2-2 and his two-run jack to center in the sixth gave UWM a 6-2 advantage at the time.

Up 8-4 in the seventh, the Panthers iced the win with a five-run rally. Boidanis came through with a big two-out double with the bases loaded to chase home a pair and then Heili launched a 1-0 pitch to left center to clear the bases and close out the scoring for the contest.

One more road game awaits, traveling back to Illinois once again, this time to take on Chicago State Tuesday. Then, if Mother Nature allows it, the home opener will be April 13 against Youngstown State, the first game of a three-game weekend set.
