Tennis Bounces Back For Big Road Win

Panthers split weekend road trip

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Milwaukee tennis team bounced back from a narrow loss on Friday with an emphatic 5-2 road win at Valparaiso Saturday from Valpo Tennis Complex.

"This was a huge win for us," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "Yesterday was tough loss, and it's never easy to play again so soon after that type of match. But I'm so proud of this team. They put that behind them and did what they needed to do today."

Milwaukee (9-12, 3-4 Horizon) once again got things going right out of the gates with strong play in doubles action.

Berta Masdevall Masip and Alysa Straub notched their 10^th win as a tandem in decisive fashion with a 6-0 take down at the No. 1 spot for the quick edge.

UWM then grabbed the doubles point quickly thereafter when Nicole Clarke and Eszter Zador powered to a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot to claim the doubles point and give Milwaukee the lead going into singles play.

There, the Panthers continued to pounce on their opponents right from the start.

The top seeds showed just why they're there, claiming the first two points for the Black & Gold. Labina Petrovska made it look easy with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top spot before Zador stretched the team's lead to three with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the second spot.

Straub then clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-2 match at the No. 4 spot – her 17^th win of the year.

With the match already in hand, Masdevall Masip added one more for good measure with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 'W' at the No. 3 spot.

Milwaukee now returns home to close out the regular season, hosting Cleveland State and Youngstown State for two important matches next weekend, starting Saturday.
