Marshall posts thrilling three-set win

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee tennis team notched three big singles wins only to come up just short to Wright State Sunday, 4-3, from River Glen Elite.

The Panthers – playing its second-straight conference match in as many days – started singles play off well at the top spot. Labina Petrovska took down Karoline Haller in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, for the first Milwaukee win of the day.

The next win came from Alysa Straub. The senior battled for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot – her sixth win in her last seven matches.

Hayley Marshall fought for arguably the most entertaining win of the day. The senior took the first set, 7-6, before falling in the second in extras, 6-7. In the deciding third, Marshall dug deep and won, 10-5 for the win.

Nicole Clarke and Eszter Zador also won at the doubles level with a convincing 6-1 'W', but WSU was able to take the other two doubles points to just edge out the win.

UWM now starts a five-match road trip, heading to the state of Michigan next weekend for matches against Detroit Mercy and Oakland on Saturday and Sunday.
