Milwaukee Posts Convincing Win In Conference Opener

Panthers sweep doubles play

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee tennis team kicked off its conference season with a strong performance across the board, taking down Northern Kentucky, 5-2, at River Glen Elite Saturday afternoon.

"Our team was really locked in today," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "I was super proud of the adjustments that they made mid-match. They were all very responsive. This was a total team effort for the win."

Milwaukee got things rolling right out of the gates with a big showing in doubles play. After dropping the first few points in each of the three matches, UWM bounced right back with wins in all three to make it a sweep and grab the doubles point in an emphatic way.

With the lead heading into singles play, Milwaukee kept things rolling.

Alysa Straub cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot for a quick Panther point.

Berta Masdevall Masip added another win with a 6-4, 6-1 'W' over Katja Dijanezevic at the No. 3 spot for the third win and Nicole Clarke finished things off with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sierra Nellessen to clinch the team victory.

With things already in hand, Hayley Marshall added one more for good measure with a comeback 1-6, 6-3, 10-2 at the fifth spot for her 11th win of the year.

Milwaukee returns to action again right away Sunday with a 1 pm contest at River Glen Elite against Wright State.
