Tennis Stretches Win Streak To Three

Panthers start spring break trip with win over St. Bonaventure

AKRON, Ohio – The Milwaukee tennis team made it three in a row Friday with a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure in a neutral site contest hosted by Akron University in Ohio.

The Panthers once again started things off with a big win in doubles play before getting solid contributions throughout to start their spring break trip with a big win.

"I'm really proud of how the team responded today," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "It's our first big trip of the spring season, and we fought all the way to the end. That was especially evident with Aerielle Pendleton's play today. The score sheet doesn't show it, but she battled from a number of match points down and came back for the win. That's exactly the type of fight we need this whole trip."

Once again, the Panthers started things off by establishing themselves early with a doubles-point win. Nicole Clarke and Eszter Zador made quick work of their opponents at the No. 6 spot for a 6-0 win before Alysa Straub and Berta Masdevall Masip – the reigning Horizon League doubles team of the week – notched a hard-fought 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot to secure the point.

That play carried over in singles action, with Straub claiming the first Panther point with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the fourth spot.

Masdevall Masip also cruised for a straight-sets win at the No. 5 spot for a 3-1 UWM lead.

Labina Petrovska then secured the win for Milwaukee with a big 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mara Martinez-Santori at the top spot to clinch the Panthers' third-straight win.

With the match already in hand, Aerielle Pendleton battled in the closest match of the day. The senior dropped the opening set and faced multiple set points in the third only to fight back the whole way for a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory over Lauren Doversola.

It's a quick turnaround for Milwaukee as they return to the same court Saturday take on the host Zips of Akron at 9 am central time.
