Tennis Starts Busy Week Wednesday At Marquette

Team plays three matches this week, all in town

MILWAUKEE – Fresh off win number one of the season, the Milwaukee women's tennis team returns to action this week for three matches in four days, starting Wednesday.

The Panthers start things off Wednesday with a 5 pm contest at Marquette. That match will take place at Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Marquette's campus and will feature live results here.

Then, UWM returns to its home court at River Glen Elite for a pair of weekend home matches. Friday, Milwaukee welcomes Northern Iowa for a 1 pm contest before Bradley comes to town Saturday, also at 1 pm.

Last Time Out
Milwaukee notched win number one of the season with a quick 6-1 win over South Dakota State last Saturday at River Glen Elite. UWM got things going right out of the gates by sweeping doubles play before taking five of the six in singles play.

Scouting The Opponents
Marquette starts this week with a 2-1 record after dropping a close 4-3 decision at Wisconsin Saturday. Wednesday starts a seven-match home stand for the Golden Eagles, who are 2-0 against the Horizon League this season with home wins over UIC and Green Bay earlier on the year.

The Northern Iowa Panthers will come to Milwaukee Saturday sporting a 2-0 record on the young season after a pair of 6-1 wins over Omaha and South Dakota. Saturday's contest will be the first road match of the year for the veteran UNI squad that features just one sophomore and zero freshmen.

Meanwhile, Saturday's opponent Bradley heads into the weekend with a 1-2 record. The Braves own a 7-0 win over South Dakota State in its season opener before losses to Eastern Illinois and Northern Illinois last week.

A Look At Last Year
Milwaukee continued its trend in the right direction in 2016, as Jeff Aranda led the team to a 12-10 record overall – their third winning season in the last four years.

Aranda – who was named the program's 10th coach in program history – had instant success, highlighted by a 6-3 mark in league play. A pair of Panthers earned All-Horizon League honors, as Labina Petrovska was named to the first-team squad and Hayley Marshall second-team all league.
