Tennis Cruises To First Win Of The Season

Panthers take down Jackrabbits, 6-1

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory of South Dakota State University Saturday afternoon from River Glen Elite.
 
"It's great to get our first win of the year," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "Eszter had a great comeback at the top spot and we were just locked in right from the start. This is a great starting point for us to build on going forward."
 
Zador had the performance of the day at the top singles spot. With the team win already in hand, the freshman overcame an early set back for a thrilling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
 
Labina Petrovska started things off in singles action for UWM with a quick 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
 
Berta Masdevall Masip and Alysa Straub followed that up with a pair of straight-set wins at the No. 5 and 4 spots.
 
Nicole Clarke also recorded win number one of her collegiate career with a 1-6, 7-6 (4), 10-0 victory over Isabella Chela.
 
In doubles play, Milwaukee swept all three matches. Hayley Marshall and Straub were the first to finish with a 6-1 win, followed by Zador and Petrovska (6-2) at the No. 2 spot and Masdevall Masip and Masha Lobanova (6-3) at the No. 3 spot.
 
The Panthers have a pair of matches next week, starting Wednesday at Marquette at 5 pm.
