Banged Up Panthers Come Up Short Against Minnesota

Masdevall Masip forces three sets against Big Ten foe

MILWAUKEE – Playing their second Big Ten foe in just over 24 hours, the Milwaukee women's tennis team came up short Saturday, 7-0, from River Glen Elite.

Milwaukee (2-5), which had to considerably adjust its lineup due to a few injuries, battled hard but Minnesota (7-4) proved too much on the day.

All three Panther doubles teams played with different teammates for the first time this season as the Gophers took the opening point.

In singles action, Berta Masdevall Masip – playing up at the No. 4 spot for the first time in her career – battled hard and forced three sets against Mehvish Safdar. Masdevall Masip dropped the opener, 7-5, bounced back for a 6-3 win in the second and came up just short in the third, 10-5.

Also, playing at the No. 1 spot for the first time this season, Labina Petrovska suffered an injury in the second set and was forced to retire before finishing.

Milwaukee has another busy week ahead, taking on both Drake and Cardinal Stritch next weekend in doubleheader on Sunday from River Glen Elite, starting at 1 pm.
