Panthers Fight To The End Against Wisconsin

Masdevall Masip picks up win against Big Ten foe

MADISON, Wis.Berta Masdevall Masip notched a memorable win in just her sixth collegiate match to headline a strong showing the Milwaukee women's tennis team despite a final score of a 6-1 loss to Wisconsin Friday afternoon from the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Playing in their first match in two weeks, Milwaukee (2-4) showed little rust and had great effort from top to bottom against the in-state powerhouse Badgers.

"I'm really proud of how the team played today," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "Obviously, no team is ever happy with losing. But, we realize we were going up against a very tough opponent and came out with a great attitude, giving it everything we had."

Masdevall Masip was the headline of the day, picking up a big win at the No. 5 spot. The freshman took down Christina Zordani in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 to earn a notable point for the Panthers on the day.

In other action, Alysa Straub fought to the end in an extremely close match that went back and forth much of the day before falling, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.

Hayley Marshall also nearly claimed a "W" for the Black & Gold before taking a loss, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

UWM is back in action again right away tomorrow, hosting another Big Ten opponent in Minnesota at 5 pm from River Glen Elite.
