Fast Start Too Much For Milwaukee

Norse hot shooting ends Panther winning streak

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky connected on a season-high 13 three pointers in a 72-51 win over the Milwaukee women's basketball team Friday night from BB&T Arena.

The loss snaps a four-game win streak for Milwaukee (19-9, 11-6 Horizon), as they could just never get on track against the red-hot home squad.

"I give a lot of credit to Northern Kentucky. They were well prepared and they were physically tough against us tonight," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "This is the third time this year where we haven't come out and competed. We didn't shoot well and our ball movement was slow. We have a lot of searching to do to find our identity on the road.

"In the second half, Sierra (Ford-Washington) and Steph (Kostowicz) really stepped up and tried to put the team on their back, but it was just too late in the game."

Steph Kostowicz was one of two Panthers in double figures on the night, scoring 11 points to go with her eight rebounds. Jenny Lindner also needed 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Sierra Ford-Washington led the team in rebounding with nine boards while adding six points and three steals on the cold night for Milwaukee.

Four players reached double digits in points for the Norse, led by Taryn Taugher and Shar'Rae Davis with 16.

The Norse came out on fire right from the start, with Mikayla Terry starting off the scoring with a three ball for NKU. After a Panther free throw cut the lead to just 6-5 near the midway point of the opening quarter, the Norse took off with a 16-5 run to close things out with a 22-9 edge after the first 10 minutes.

In fact, Northern Kentucky – which came into the game averaging just 4.5 made threes per contest – connected on five triples in the opening quarter alone.

From there, the Panther offense could never quite get on track, shooting just 34.4 percent from the floor on the night and just 2-19 from behind the arc.

Milwaukee will look to bounce back Sunday in the regular season finale at Wright State. That game is set to tip off at 4 pm Central.
