Tennis Takes On Wisconsin, Minnesota This Week

Panthers host Golden Gophers Saturday at 6 pm

MILWAUKEE – After a week off, the Milwaukee tennis team returns to action for a pair of matches against the Big Ten this week.

Friday, Milwaukee will make the short trek across I-94 to Madison to take on the Badgers for a 5 pm match from the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Live scoring is available for Friday's match here.

Then, on Saturday, the Panthers return home to take on Minnesota at 6 pm from River Glen Elite.

Last Time Out
Playing its third match in four days, the Panthers came up just short in a 4-3 decision at home against Bradley Saturday, Feb. 11. Hayley Marshall, Alysa Straub and Berta Masdevall Masip all picked up wins for the Black & Gold in the narrow defeat.

Scouting The Opponents
Wisconsin heads into Friday's match with a 3-5 record overall and are looking to bounce back from a four-match losing skid. The Badgers are a perfect 3-0 at home so far this season, however, and have wins over common opponents Colorado State (7-0) and Marquette (4-3).

Saturday's match won't be the first time Milwaukee and Minnesota have seen each other this season, as the Panthers were one of the many teams on hand for the annual Gopher Invitational last September.

Thus far in the spring season, the Gophers are 5-3 overall and have won two straight. Minnesota has used a variety of lineups thus far this season with its 11-person roster, which features four individuals hailing from just across the border in the Greater Chicago area.

A Look At Last Year
Milwaukee continued its trend in the right direction in 2016, as Jeff Aranda led the team to a 12-10 record overall – their third winning season in the last four years.

Aranda – who was named the program's 10th coach in program history – had instant success, highlighted by a 6-3 mark in league play. A pair of Panthers earned All-Horizon League honors, as Labina Petrovska was named to the first-team squad and Hayley Marshall second-team all league.

Up Next
The Panthers have a week to prepare for a very busy day next week, hosting a pair of opponents next Sunday. It all starts at 1 pm Mar. 5 when Drake comes to town. There's no time for rest afterward, as Milwaukee will turnaround and play Cardinal Stritch immediately after for a match scheduled for 5 pm. Both contests will be at River Glen Elite.
