Tennis Comes Up Short Against Bradley

Marshall, Straub, Masdevall Masip claim wins in close team defeat

MILWAUKEE – Playing its third match in four days, the Milwaukee tennis team came up just short against a stingy Bradley University squad Saturday afternoon at River Glen Elite, falling by a score of 4-3.

"I'm disappointed with how we came out today," Milwaukee head coach Jeff Aranda said. "The team's attitude just wasn't in the right place to start the day. We had opportunities to win a few matches that we lost because we weren't mentally solid. Now we've got 13 days to get back to the drawing board and get ready for Wisconsin."

After a Bradley sweep in doubles play, the Panthers started to regroup in singles action.

Hayley Marshall won her second match in as many days with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot. Berta Masdevall Masip followed suit with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win at the NO. 5 spot to give two points to the home team.

One day after a draining match, Alysa Straub battled back less than 24 hours later for a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 win over Alexa Brandt at the fourth spot to give Milwaukee its third win of the day.

It wasn't enough, however, as the Braves took spots one, two and six to walk away with the road win.

Milwaukee now has two weeks before its next match – a road trip to Wisconsin Feb. 24 at 5 pm.
