Milwaukee Suffers Heartbreaker In Dayton

Panthers fall short to Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio – The Milwaukee volleyball suffered a setback on the road Friday evening with a 3-1 loss to Wright State from McLin Gymnasium.

The Raiders (11-18, 5-11 Horizon) came out strong from the start and finished with a 25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23 win.

The loss knocks Milwaukee (12-17, 5-10 Horizon) out of postseason contention with one match remaining on the schedule.

Kylie Wilks led the way for Milwaukee with 10 kills and a team-high 17 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Bridget Wallenberger finished just ahead of Wilks for a team-high 13 kills.

Mykie Olsen had 16 digs, while Lexie Uselding turned in 13, Jenn Dore 12 and Kailynn Mongan 11.

Dore also had a double-double on the night with 40 assists.

Senior libero Jessie Thornton – playing in her final match for Wright State – finished with a match-high 19 digs and two serve aces to lead the Raiders.

After dropping the opening set, the Panthers bounced back in the second. An early 8-2 run quickly put UWM up 10-7, before a Jess Kalous kill made it 18-14. Milwaukee would never let WSU any closer as an attack error by Wright State gave the Panthers the set to tie things up at 1-1.

From there, the Panthers never quite reestablished their rhythm. The Raiders jumped all over UWM in the third for a quick win to retake the lead. The fourth was much closer but WSU found a three-point streak late to claim the win.

Milwaukee actually finished the match with more kills (51-44), while Wright State claimed a dominant edge in blocks (15-6).

The Panthers will now close out their 2017 season at Youngstown State Saturday at 3 pm Central from the Beeghly Center.
