EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Tandem Nicole Clarke and Joie Beth Freirich led the Milwaukee tennis team with two wins today in day one of the SIEU Indoor Invite played at the Edwardsville (Ill.) YMCA.
 
"Nicole and Joie went 2-0 in doubles today, that was definitely a great start to the morning," Milwaukee head coach Jason Potthoff said.
 
After double's play, the Panthers struggled to get anything going in singles play. "We ran in to some tough competition today in singles, and like most teams late in the fall season, we've got some girls who aren't 100% healthy. We aren't making excuses, though...we had our chances and just need to do a better job taking advantage of our opportunities tomorrow. As long as the Panthers continue to fight like they did today, we can finish up our last fall tournament with some good momentum."
 
In each of their single matches, Loren Nelson and Lucy Harper each won a set against their opponents, but fell in the hard fought tie breaker.

UWM returns to action tomorrow for day two of the invite beginning with doubles play, followed by singles play.
