Panthers Come Up Just Short In Season Opener

Petrovska, Straub claim singles wins

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's tennis team came up just short in their season-opener, falling to Colorado State 5-2 Saturday afternoon from North Shore Elite.

UWM started the day with solid action in doubles play. Masha Lobanova and newcomer Berta Masdevall Masip teamed up for the first win of the day with a 6-2 victory.

Then, in singles action, Alysa Straub got Milwaukee on the board with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Celine Voss at the No. 4 spot. Labina Petrovska also picked up in a W in the first match of the season with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 battle at the second spot.

From there, however, the Panthers couldn't quite find the finishing touch despite three-set matches by both Masdevall Masip and Aerielle Pendleton.

Milwaukee returns to action next Saturday with another home match, this time welcoming South Dakota State to River Glen Elite at 1 pm.
