Panther Tennis With Multiple Banner Wins Saturday

UWM claims big wins over Minnesota, Iowa

MINNEAPOLIS – Berta Masdevall Masip advanced to the final of her flight to headline an outstanding 10 wins by the Milwaukee tennis team Saturday at the Gopher Invite at Baseline Tennis Center Saturday.

Masdevall Masip captured one of many impressive wins on the day for the Panthers. The freshman took down Taylor Tamblyn of Iowa in the semifinal to advance to Sunday's championship matchup.

Masha Lobanova continued that strong showing in her flight, winning both of her matches on Saturday to claim fifth place. The sophomore first defeated Zorka Sara Sviben of South Dakota State before a come-from-behind, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) win over Omaha's Rebecca Stafford.

Milwaukee posted yet another signature win on the young season in doubles play. Hayley Marshal and Alysa Straub made it look easy against Minnesota's pairing of Kalyssa Hall and Maja Vujic to the tune of a 6-1 victory to kick things off Saturday.

Labina Petrovska and Eszter Zador also posted a 6-1 win over Iowa's duo of Tamblyn and Montana Crawford.

Nicole Clark and Masdevall Masip also recorded a doubles win on the day, taking down North Dakota's top duo, 7-5.

Straub, Petrovska and Marshall all also recorded singles wins on the day as Milwaukee had arguably its strongest showing of the season thus far.

The Panthers wrap up the Gopher Invite Sunday with two more rounds of doubles matches starting at 9 am, followed by the final round of singles competition at 11 am.
