Panthers Suffer Heartbreaker At League Tournament

Comeback effort comes up just short

Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Milwaukee women's tennis team wrapped up its 2016 season with a hard-fought 4-1 loss to Wright State Friday afternoon in the Horizon League Tournament from the Varsity Tennis Center at the University of Michigan.

Facing the Raiders (19-8) for the second time in the past five days, the Panthers (12-10) dropped the doubles point for the early deficit.

UWM would continue to battle though.

After Dana Shannon claimed a 6-1, 7-5 win at the No. 5 spot, the rally was on. Second-team all-conference honoree Hayley Marshall forced three sets at the No. 2 spot, as did freshman Laurie Clark at the No. 3 spot. But it wasn't enough, as Wright State was able to squeak on three wins in singles play before the Panthers could complete the comeback.

This concludes Milwaukee's season.
