Penguins Cool Off Milwaukee

Two matches left in the season

Youngstown, Ohio – One day after knocking off league-leading Cleveland State, the Milwaukee women's tennis team couldn't complete the weekend sweep after a 6-1 loss to Youngstown State Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers (10-9, 4-3 Horizon) came up just short in doubles play and couldn't quite get on track after that in the road loss.

Laurie Clark and Alysa Straub start things off with a dominating showing at the No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win over Nehel Sahni and Noëlly Longi Nsimba. But, Youngstown (8-11, 6-1 Horizon) was able to just sneak by, 7-5 at No. 3 and 6-4 at No. 2 to take the early lead.

Straub carried that momentum over into singles play. The junior notched her 18th win of the year with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sofia Macias to get Milwaukee on the board early.

From there, however, it was all Penguins as UWM dropped its first league contest on the road this year.

The Panthers wrap up their season next weekend with a return trip to Ohio, taking on Northern Kentucky and Wright State Saturday and Sunday.
