Panthers Sweep Valpo On Senior Day

Shannon closes out home career with another win

MILWAUKEE – Dana Shannon closed out her home career in emphatic fashion, leading the Milwaukee women's tennis team to a 7-0 win over Valparaiso Sunday morning from North Shore Elite.

Shannon – the lone senior on this year's squad – won in convincing fashion in both singles and doubles play as UWM improved to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in league play with its second sweep in its last three matches.

Shannon and teammate Masha Lobanova started the day off with the first win in doubles play with a 6-2 win. Hayley Marshall and Labina Petrovska then won the No. 2 spot, 6-1, before a 6-3 win by Laurie Clark and Alysa Straub at the top spot to sweep the doubles point.

The Panthers then poured it on in singles play.

Aerielle Pendleton started things off with a perfect performance at the No. 6 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0 to quickly give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead.

Shannon continued her dominant day with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot to close out her home career with a W.

Next it was Straub's turn. The junior earned her team-leading 12^th win in dual action with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match for the Panthers.

With the victory already in hand, the Black and Gold didn't let up. Clark, Marshall and Petrovska all won in straight sets in the top-three spots to complete the sweep for Milwaukee.

The Panthers hit the road for the first time in a month next weekend, heading to northeast Ohio for a pair of weekend matches, starting Saturday at league-leading Cleveland State.
