Panthers Sweep Past Phoenix

Team now 2-1 in conference play

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's tennis team made things look easy Friday night in a 7-0 win over Green Bay from North Shore Elite.

UWM had to battle for the doubles point before cruising to straight-set wins in singles play in four of the six matches.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in Horizon League action.

Aerielle Pendleton started things off with a smooth, 6-2, 6-0 win. Alysa Straub then added another 'W' at the No. 4 spot. The junior cruised to a 6-1 win in the opener before falling down 4-0 in the second set, only to march all the way back for a 6-4 finish to seal it.

Labina Petrovska then sealed the win for Milwaukee. The newcomer brought home a win at the top spot to the tune of a 6-2, 6-4 result.

With the match already clinched, the Panthers didn't let up. Freshman Laurie Clark won her 21^st match of the year with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot. Dana Shannon battled to a 6-5, 4-6, 10-4 win at the No. 5 spot, and Hayley Marshall fought through a minor injury to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win to complete the sweep.

The Panthers also claimed the doubles point on the day. Masha Lobanova and Shannon marched through the No. 3 spot, 6-1 to even things up at 1-1. Then, at the No. 2 spot, Petrovska and Marshall clinched the opening point with a 7-6 (4) thriller.

Milwaukee returns to the court next weekend with a pair of matches, starting things off Saturday by welcoming UIC to River Glen Elite for a 12:30 match.
