JONESBORO, Ark. - Adam Reuss allowed just one earned run in 6.1 innings and the Milwaukee baseball team erupted on offense in the final three innings to claim a 9-2 victory over Arkansas State Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.
Â
"What a great job by Adam today." Milwaukee head coach
Scott Doffek said. "He really stepped up when his team needed him."
Â
The Panthers (3-9) led the Red Wolves (7-5) by a score of just 2-1 prior to batting in their half of the seventh, but opened the game up with three runs in each of the next two frames to put it away.
Â
"It was nice to see the offense execute some movement plays to put pressure on them," Doffek said. "It was great to see
Dan Barwick coming off the bench and doing a job. This was a great team win against a good opponent."
Â
Dan Barwick keyed the seventh inning rally with a two-run pinch-hit single and came through again in the eighth with a single that capped that three-run outburst.
Nick Unes hit a home run in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Â
Luke Meeteer added two hits and two RBI's to his strong effort on the weekend, finishing 9-for-15 (.600) in the four-game series.
Â
Eric Solberg went 2-for-4 and stole a pair of bases and
Daulton Varsho also had a two-hit day, scoring twice and driving in a run.
Â
Reuss (1-1) allowed just three hits in his outing, striking out four in giving up two runs, one earned.
Jake Tuttle (3 K's in 1.2 innings) and
Elijah Goodman (scoreless ninth) closed out the victory, with Milwaukee allowing just four hits on the day.
Â
UWM jumped on the board in the first, getting an RBI-single from Meeteer and an RBI-ground out off the bat of
John Boidanis. A-State got one back in the second and Reuss did the rest until the offense got on track late in the contest.
Â
Up next, the Panthers remain on the road, heading to Kansas for a weekend series with Kansas State. First game will be Friday at 3:05 p.m.
