Milwaukee Notches Big Win Over Oakland

Panthers improve to 1-1 in league play

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee tennis team overcame a slow start en route to a big 4-3 win over Oakland Sunday morning at North Shore Elite.

UWM was swept in doubles play and struggled early in singles action, only to win four singles matches and improve to 1-1 in the Horizon League after the opening weekend of league play.

Alysa Straub got things going with a strong showing, winning 6-4, 6-1.

Dana Shannon then kept it going at the No. 5 spot. The senior cruised to an opening-set win before battling for a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory.

Then it was Labina Petrovska's turn. After struggling early, the newcomer won her second-straight at the No. 1 spot to the tune of a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win.

Laurie Clark then sealed the win for Milwaukee with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 W of her own – the team-leading 20th of the season for the freshman.

The Panthers continue their five-match homestand Friday with a 4 p.m. contest against in-state rival Green Bay from North Shore Elite.
