Panthers Kickoff Conference Play This Weekend

Team starts five-match home stand

MILWAUKEE – Conference play starts up this weekend for the Milwaukee women's tennis team as they host a pair of league foes Saturday and Sunday, with both matches taking place at North Shore Elite.

The Panthers first host Detroit at 12:30 Saturday afternoon before a Sunday 10 a.m. contest against Oakland.

Strong Start
Milwaukee is off to a solid start this season, sitting at 6-6 after 12 matches in the spring season. While it is still early, that is a significant improvement from last year's 3-9 start through the first 12 games.

Back Home
Milwaukee is back home after three-straight matches on the road. UWM grabbed a big 4-3 win at Northern Iowa before heading down to Florida over spring break.

The Panthers started their trip to the Sunshine State with a thrilling 4-3 win. Trailing 3-1 at one point, UWM rallied with wins from the 4-5-6 spots for their sixth win of the season.

Milwaukee then took a default loss to FIU as the majority of the team came down ill and did not make the trip to Miami for this one.

Kicking Off Conference Play
Saturday is the start of league play for the Panthers, where UWM will look to continue its strong play.

In fact, over the last four years, the Panthers are a combined 21-10 in the Horizon league. That includes that incredible 7-1 conference mark two years ago when the Panthers claimed their first regular season title in program history.

About Detroit
The Titans come to town with a 1-5 record so far this season. Detroit's lone win came in a 5-2 affair against Northwestern (Ohio). UDM has not played a match in two weeks though, last competing March 12 in a 2-5 loss at Akron.

About Oakland
OU wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 7-4 record after a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure this past Sunday. The Golden Grizzlies also recently returned from a spring break trip to Florida where they went 5-1, including three 7-0 wins over Savannah State, Seton Hill and Mount St. Mary's.

Oakland will start its conference action Saturday at Green Bay before the Easter Sunday match in Milwaukee.
