Milwaukee Tennis Wins Home Opener

Panthers take down Chicago, 6-1

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's tennis team claimed a decisive 6-1 win over the University of Chicago Saturday afternoon from River Glen Elite.

Playing at home for the first time this season, the Panthers made it two in a row with a well-deserved victory in front of the home fans.

UWM marched through doubles play with precision and execution, taking the top spot, 6-1, before claiming a pair of 6-2 wins at the second and third positions for the sweep.

The Panthers had to battle in singles play. At the top spot, Labina Petrovska dropped the first set before fighting back for a well-deserved win, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

It was a similar story for Hayley Marshall. Playing at the No. 2 spot, the junior came up just short in the opening frame before a 4-6, 7-5 (10-4) win.

Freshman Laurie Clark made quick work of her opponent, keeping a clean sheet in the opening set before a 6-0, 6-2 win.

With the match already in hand, Alysa Straub (6-4, 6-2) and Aerielle Pendleton (6-2, 6-2) left no doubt for the first home win of the year.

The Panthers have little time to rest, returning to the court yet again tomorrow to take on Cardinal Stritch back at River Glen Elite at 3:30 p.m.
