Clark, Straub both win fifth matches of young season

MILWAUKEEAlysa Straub and Laurie Clark both won their fifth matches of the young season Saturday but it wasn't enough as the Milwaukee tennis team came up just short, 4-3, to Northern Illinois from North Shore Elite.

One day after suffering a very long, heartbreaking 4-3 defeat to Akron, the Panthers showed they meant business right out of the gate by sweeping the doubles point.

Clark and Straub teamed up to take the No. 1 spot, 6-3, while the No. 2 and No. 3 UWM teams cruised to a pair of 6-2 victories.

In singles play, Clark and Straub continued their dominance. Each claimed emphatic 6-1, 6-1 wins to set Milwaukee up with the first three points of the day.

But, NIU responded well, taking the remaining four singles matches to just sneak out of town with the win.

The Panthers will now have two weeks to prepare for its next match on Sunday, Feb. 28 when DePaul comes to town for a 1 p.m. showdown.
