Panther Tennis Looks To Keep Things Rolling This Weekend

Milwaukee to host Akron, Northern Illinois

MILWAUKEE – After nearly sweeping both teams in a pair of wins last weekend, the Milwaukee women's tennis team will look to keep things going with another pair of home matches, starting Friday.

UWM will first play host to Akron Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. before a Saturday contest against Northern Illinois at 12:30. Both matches will be played at North Shore Elite.

Winning Streak
The Panthers have been on a hot streak of late, winning their last three in a row.

Milwaukee started their run with a big, 4-3 win on the road against a very talented South Dakota team. Then, Milwaukee cruised to a 6-1 win over Chicago before a 7-0 sweep of Cardinal Stritch – a team ranked fifth in the nation in the NAIA.

About Akron
The Zips started the season 4-0 and head into Friday's match with a 4-1 mark after a 5-2 loss to West Virginia. Akron holds a pair of wins against two other Horizon League foes – a 5-2 victory over Youngstown State and a 6-1 W at Wright State.

Sophomore Sophia Geier, hailing from Burgebrach, Germany, leads UA with a 4-0 mark on the year, all at the No. 1 spot.

About Northern Illinois
Coming off an 11-9 season under first-year head coach Tanya Gombera, the Huskies enter the 2016 season very optimistic. NIU is just 2-3 overall but have played tough in every match.

After starting the season with a 7-0 loss at Minnesota, Northern Illinois claimed a pair of 6-1 wins over North Dakota and Lewis, before two narrow, 4-3 defeats by Bradley and Cleveland State.
