Tennis Claims Big Win Over South Dakota

First win for new coach Jeff Aranda

MINNEAPOLIS – The Milwaukee women's tennis team picked up a big win over South Dakota in late action Sunday, winning 4-3 from the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of Minnesota.

The win is the first for new Panther head coach Jeff Aranda in just the third match of his coaching career.

UWM started things off strong in doubles play. Hayley Marshall and Labina Petrovska battled to a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot and Dana Shannon and Masha Lobanova marched to a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot and claim the doubles point.

That momentum carried over into singles play.

Freshman Laurie Clark cruised to a big, 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot, taking down Emma Krandendonk who claimed South Dakota's lone win against No. 60 Minnesota just one day earlier.

Alysa Straub continued that trend at the No. 4 spot. The junior powered to a 6-4, 6-1 win to put Milwaukee one win away from taking the match.

Aerielle Pendleton came through with that win, taking the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-1 to seal it for Milwaukee.

Next up, the Panthers are at home for the first time this season, playing host to Chicago Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
