Four Players Earn Horizon League Men’s Soccer Postseason Honors

Conway named Freshman of the Year

MILWAUKEE - Four members of the Milwaukee men's soccer team were honored with postseason awards when the league office announced the all-league teams and specialty award winners Monday.

In addition to three student-athletes earning spots on the All-Horizon League Second Team, newcomer Evan Conway received one of the specialty awards by being selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Year.

Nick Moon, Jonathan Stadler and Francesco Saporito were the trio that picked up second-team accolades. The honors are all career-firsts for the players and mark the most members of the second-team for UWM since three were named in 2006.

In addition, Conway was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Moon has started all 17 games this season, entering play today with 10 points (3G/4A). He has the second-highest shot total on the team (42) and has set career-highs in points, goals, assists and shots this season.

Saporito has also started all 17 games and has been among league leaders in assists all season long. He starts play today tied for the team lead with 15 points, scoring four goals to go along with his team-high seven assists. The free-kick specialist has 33 shots, 21 of which have been on goal for a team-best .636 SOG percentage. Three of his four goals have been game-winners, accounting for the difference-maker against Northern Kentucky, Detroit Mercy and Western Illinois. His point total is tied for sixth in the conference.

Stadler has been the veteran presence on the backline, starting 15 of the 17 games, including each of the past 12. He has helped UWM post five shutouts and a 1.31 goals-against average with a pair of freshman behind him in net all season.

Conway has made a nice first impression for the Panthers, currently tied for the team lead with 15 points and a team-best six goals. He leads all freshman in the league in points and goals – ranking sixth in the league overall – and has a team-best 49 shots.
