Panther Tennis Dominant In Final Day At Whitewater

Marshall claims singles title

WHITEWATER, Wis. – Hayley Marshall was crowned champion of her flight to headline another outstanding day for the Milwaukee tennis team in the second and final day of action at the Warhawk Fall Invite Saturday at Wangerin Courts.

As a team, Milwaukee tallied another 11 wins on the day, all in singles play, to up the team season total to 40.

Marshall grabbed the headlines with two big wins on the day en route to her first fall tournament title of the year. The senior cruised in her first match of the day, 6-0, 6-1, before battling in the championship match for a big win, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0 (10-5).

Sophomore Masha Lobanova and freshman Nicole Clarke both also advanced to championship matches in their flights Saturday before settling for second-place finishes.

In the top flight, freshman Eszter Zador bounced back from a loss in the semifinals to take third place with a solid 7-6 (7), 6-4 win. In the same flight, Labina Petrovska claimed the consolation title after winning her first match, 7-6 (4), 0-6, 1-0 (10-4), before a straight sets win in the final.

Aerielle Pendleton also brought home some hardware on the day. One day after winning a doubles title on Friday, Pendleton took third place Saturday in her flight with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the final match of the day.

The Panthers will now have two weeks to prepare for the ITA Midwest Regional, starting Thursday, Oct. 20 hosted this year by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
