Zador Shines At Regionals

Freshman won both matches Thursday

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Freshman Eszter Zador headlined an impressive first day of action for the Milwaukee tennis team at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships Thursday hosted by Michigan State at the MSU Tennis Facility.

Zador won both of her matches in convincing fashion to advance to the round of 16 in her first trip to regionals. The newcomer first beat Claire Aleck of Toledo, 6-1, 6-1, before a 6-1, 6-3 win over conference foe Kathleen Hebble.

This marks the third time in the last two years a Panther has won her first two matches at regionals – all of which have been by freshmen.

In other action, Labina Petrovska suffered a heartbreaker in an extremely close matchup, falling 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). Alysa Straub also battled before coming up just short in her opening draw.

Doubles play begins Friday afternoon before singles action resumes on Saturday.
