Panthers Wrap Up Gopher Invite On Top

Clark finishes “A” flight as runner-up

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team closed out the Gopher Invite with more wins Sunday afternoon.
 
The Panthers tallied an outstanding 22 wins over the three-day tournament against some of the best tennis programs in the Midwest.
 
Freshman Laurie Clark finished runner-up of her flight with an solid showing over the weekend. The newcomer from Bolton, U.K. went 4-1 over the weekend before coming up just short in Sunday's final, settling for a second-place finish out of the 32-person flight.
 
Hayley Marshall went out a winner on Sunday. The junior fought from behind for a 3-6, 6-2 (8) win over Ffion Davies.
 
Freshman Masha Lobanova also closed out the weekend with a win, marching to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Green Bay's Noel Peck.
 
UWM also claimed three doubles wins on the day as Dana Shannon and Clark; Labina Petrovska and Marshall; and Alysa Straub and Lobanova all won one match on the day to wrap up the successful weekend.
 
Milwaukee returns to action next weekend with a tournament just down the road at UIC.
