Panthers Come Up Short At Cleveland State

Milwaukee finally returns home next weekend

Cleveland, Ohio – Grace Kauth had 13 kills to lead all players as Cleveland State claimed a 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team Saturday afternoon from Woodling Gymnasium.

The Vikings (14-3, 3-0 Horizon), who remained perfect in league play, hit nearly .300 for the match and held Milwaukee to just .076 hitting for the match.

"Cleveland was a very tough team today. They came out and pounded the ball and played well and kept us out of sync," Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said. "There were positives that we'll take away from this and we're looking forward to getting back to practice this week and getting to play on our home court next weekend."

Myanna Ruiz was the leader for Milwaukee on the day, tallying 17 digs.

The Vikings started the game strong, hitting .366 in the opening frame and limited UWM to just .086. CSU jumped out to a quick 5-0 and would never trail. Milwaukee did battle back, drawing to within one five different times before Cleveland was able to pull away.

In the second, CSU again claimed an early lead at 9-3. The Panthers again clawed back but it wasn't enough against a stout Cleveland State defense.

It was much of the same in the third as the UWM offense simply could not get on track. The Panthers did hold an early lead at 5-3 before Cleveland went on a big run and never looked back.

After not having a home game during the month of September, Milwaukee finally returns home next weekend for a pair of league matches, starting Friday for a 7 p.m. match against Valparaiso at the Klotsche Center.
