Tennis Continues To Shine At Gopher Invite

Clark to play for a tourney title Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS – Freshman Laurie Clark will play for a tournament title to headline a second-straight solid day of action for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team at the Gopher Invite Saturday.

The Panthers racked up another 10 wins on the day against some of the best competition in the Midwest at Minnesota.

Clark continued to lead the way, winning two more matches to improved to 4-0 on the weekend. The freshman battled back in her first match before pounding out a 7-5, 6-0 win in the semifinal. She will now take on Morgan Steffes of SIU-Edwardsville Sunday for the tournament title.

Fellow newcomer Labina Petrovska also won a pair of matches on the day. Playing in the top flight, Petrovska fought for a well-deserved 7-5, 6-2 win in her first match of the day before cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 win in her second match.

Junior Hayley Marshall won her opening match of the day in the top flight before coming up short in her second match.

Dana Shannon and Masha Lobanova also earned wins on the day in singles play.

Milwaukee also had three wins in doubles action Saturday. Each of the three pairs claimed at least one win against stiff competition.

The Panthers will close out the three-day tournament Sunday in Minneapolis.
