Valparaiso, Ind. – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team made quick work of Valparaiso University Friday in a 7-0 sweep at the Courts of NWI.

UWM claimed a pair of convincing wins at the doubles spot to grab the early lead and never looked back, winning every singles match in straight sets.

The Panthers are now 3-1 in league play and 5-12 overall.

"I am really pleased with the way things went today," head coach Maddy Soule said. "We had a lot of energy starting from the moment the match started and I think this gave the girls the momentum and drive they needed to win at every spot. I think we are amply prepared for UIC tomorrow and I am really looking forward to the competition."

Milwaukee stormed out to a quick lead in doubles action. Alysa Straub and Christina Colarossi were nearly perfect at the top spot, winning 6-1. At the third spot, Mardee Merar and Dana Shannon were equally impressive in a 6-2 victory to seal the doubles point.

In singles action, Merar was the first to finish Friday. The freshman took down Michele Fredlake, 6-0, 6-1 to set the tone for the rest of the team.

Senior Chelsea Bailey had the most convincing win of the day, not dropping a single point in the 6-0, 6-0 emphatic win at the No. 1 singles spot.

The Panthers kept it rolling from there. Hayley Marshall (6-1, 6-2), Straub (6-1, 6-1) and Colarossi (6-2, 6-2) all were very efficient in the No. 2, 4 and 5 spots.

In the closest match of the day, sophomore Aerielle Pendleton had to battle hard at the No. 3 spot before earning a well deserved 7-6, 6-1 win.

Milwaukee is right back at it Saturday, taking on UIC at the XS Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
