Panthers End Season With Loss To UIC

West Lafayette, Ind. – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team saw its 2015 spring season come to a close with a 4-1 loss to No. 4 UIC in the Horizon League Women's Tennis Championships Friday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

The fourth-seeded Flames fought back from an early 1-0 deficit to claim the victory and advance to the semifinals.

Fifth-seeded UWM (6-16) had jumped out to the early advantage by dominating in doubles play to open the match.

But, the outcome swung in favor of UIC thanks to a hot start in singles play by UIC.

After dropping the first doubles match of the day, Milwaukee showed its resilience and battled back. At the top spot, Christina Colarossi and Alysa Straub cruised to a 6-2 win to even things up. In the deciding third match, Mardee Merar and Dana Shannon fought for a 7-6 (2) well deserved win at the No. 3 spot to claim the early lead.

Milwaukee couldn't hold back the Flames after that though; dropping the first four singles points in closely contested matches.
