Milwaukee Drops Heartbreaker To Zips

Panthers claim doubles point before falling

MILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Akron Tuesday afternoon at the North Shore Elite Tennis Club.
 
UWM fell to 4-12 overall, while Akron improved to 8-8 on the season.
 
The Panthers jumped on the Zips early, claiming the doubles point right out of the gates.
 
Alysa Straub and Christina Colarossi had to battle to extras in the No. 1 doubles match, winning 7-5 over Martina Zerbola and Sophia Geier.
 
At the No. 3 doubles spot, freshman Mardee Merar and junior Dana Shannon cruised to a 6-2 victory to secure the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead.
 
Milwaukee also claimed the top singles points of the match.
 
Senior Chelsea Bailey stumbled early only to battle back for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win. At the No. 2 spot, Hayley Marshall found herself in a similar position before claiming a hard-earned 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.
 
The Panthers now have a week off before their next match, returning to league play with a road trip to Valparaiso Friday, April 3 at 9 a.m.
