Milwaukee Drops Close Decision To FAU

Boca Raton, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee battled hard before coming up just short in a 4-2 decision to Florida Atlantic University Tuesday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla.

"This was a hard fought match. The girls definitely battled and brought a lot of concepts and strategy that we had been working on during practice," Milwaukee head coach Maddy Soule said. "It's a disappointing loss because the match was within arms reach and literally came down to a few points. To play a very talented, tough team so close is indicative of the progress we have made recently and it's very motivating to the team.

"We are definitely taking steps in the right direction and are becoming more and more prepared each day. I am really proud of the team's performance, although it was a tough loss."

Alysa Straub and Christina Colarossi started things off hot for the Panthers. Playing at the No. 1 doubles spot, the duo claimed a hard fought, 7-6 win to start things off. UWM was unlucky the rest of the way in doubles play though, conceding the point after an injury at the No. 3 spot forced the team to retire and give FAU the early lead.

Singles play was equally as close all throughout.

Straub continued her strong play and won her match, 6-4, 6-2. Aerielle Pendleton came up big after stepping in for an injury, winning the No. 6 singles spot with a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Colarossi was up 6-1 after the first set of her contest but the point went unfinished, as FAU had already sealed the narrow win.

The Panthers get back to conference play this weekend with a road swing to Michigan. UWM will take on both Oakland and Detroit this weekend, starting Saturday.
