Panthers Sweep Leathernecks In Dominating Win

Second-straight win for UWM

Results

Waterloo, Iowa –
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team won every match on the day in a dominating 7-0 sweep of Western Illinois University Saturday afternoon from the Black Hawk Tennis Club.

In fact, Milwaukee did not drop a single set on the day, including at least one 6-0 set in four of the six singles matches in the strong showing to start the weekend.

The win is the second in a row for the Panthers, improving their overall record to 2-3 on the young season.

"We went into the match very confident and it translated into today's solid victory," Milwaukee head coach Maddy Soule said. "The girls got the job done and used these matches to prepare for tomorrow's match (against host Northern Iowa), which will be a tough one. It always feels good when you win across the board so hopefully we can carry that with us into tomorrow."

The Panthers started the day by sweeping all three matches in doubles action to claim the early point. Hayley Marshall and Chelsea Bailey swept their opponents, 6-0, for the quick first win. Then, Christina Colarossi and Alysa Straub won the top spot, 6-4, with Dana Shannon and Aerielle Pendleton grabbing a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot to complete the sweep.

It was much of the same for UWM in singles action, clicking on all cylinders at every level.

Pendleton led the way for Milwaukee, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Colarossi, Shannon and Marshall all also posted 6-0 wins in their first sets en route to straight-set wins.

Bailey claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top spot over Courtney Lubbers, while Straub grabbed the No. 2 singles spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

The Panthers are right back at it Sunday, taking on the host Northern Iowa at 10 a.m.
