Tennis Welcomes Western Michigan, IUPUI

Panthers home for just second time this season

MILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tennis team is set to host a pair of non-conference foes this weekend at North Shore Elite Tennis Club.

UWM will take on Western Michigan at noon Friday before a Saturday matchup against IUPUI at 12:30.

The Panthers are off to a 2-5 start this season, most recently dropping a tough decision on the road to a talented Northern Illinois squad last Thursday.

Western Michigan enters the weekend with a 3-4 mark on the year. The Broncos are coming off a 6-1 win over fellow Horizon League university Oakland. Sophomore Meika Ashby led the way for Western Michigan last weekend, going 2-0 against the Golden Grizzlies and Michigan State, earning Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week.

IUPUI also heads into its match with Milwaukee winners of its last two and 3-4 overall. The Jaguars handled Omaha, 6-1, before a 4-3 win over Valparaiso last weekend. Freshman Valerila Lavrenchuk was named Summit League Women's Tennis Player of the Week after a 2-0 singles record and a 1-1 doubles mark last week.

Following this weekend's action, Milwaukee will head to Iowa to take on Drake, Friday, and Iowa State, Saturday.
